What is an Operating System?

An Operating System (OS) is a software program that acts as an interface between a computer’s hardware and its users. It is the most essential piece of software that a computer requires to function properly, and it provides a way for the computer’s various hardware components and software applications to work together seamlessly.

Why install an Operating System?

Just bought a new Hard Drive or SSD for your Desktop / Laptop and need a little help getting windows or another Operating System (OS) installed? One of our knowledgeable technicians can help.

The installation of an operating system involves the process of copying the OS files from a storage device, such as a CD or USB drive, to the computer’s hard drive, and configuring the necessary settings to make it function correctly.

Before we install Windows we will

  • Check if you have a TPM (Trusted Platform Module) or Secure boot on your computer
    Windows 11 or higher require you to have 2 security features known as a TPM (Trusted Platform Module) and Secure boot 
  • Create or get a Microsoft account from you, the customer
    Windows require you to have a Microsoft account.
  • Link your Microsoft account
    You must link your Microsoft account to your installation of Windows 10 and 11 before you can reactivate Windows.
  • Activate Windows
    Gigasoft Computers will activate Windows for you.

What are the steps to installing an Operating System?

The steps involved in the installation process may vary depending on the particular OS being installed, but generally, they include the following:

  • Preparing the installation media:
    This involves obtaining a copy of the OS installation files and creating a bootable device such as a DVD or USB drive.

  • Setting up the computer for installation:
    This includes configuring the BIOS settings of the computer to boot from the installation media and ensuring that the computer meets the minimum requirements for the OS.

  • Running the installation program:
    This involves starting the installation program from the bootable media, which will prompt the user to follow a series of steps to select the installation location and configure any necessary settings.

  • Completing the installation:
    Once the installation is complete, the computer will need to be rebooted, and Gigasoft Computers may be prompted to enter additional configuration settings such as setting up user accounts, network settings, and other preferences.
